Does the verb спаси́ть exist?

Здрасте.
Sorry for asking this question in English :/
About a week ago, I started to use ChatGPT for learning Russian, and today it gave me as an example the verb спаси́ть (сплю́, спи́шь...), adding that it's a very common word, ranking #1523 in spoken Russian, and #1209 in writings... which left me kind of perplexed.
What do you think of that?

”Cпаси́ть” - there is no such word.
”Cпать” = sleep, repose, take a rest. It`s a right werb.

”Cпаса́ть” = save, rescue, salvage.
”Cпаси́те!” = save me! help! sos!

I’ve seen a lot of garbage put out by ChatGPT and other AI programs (and that’s not even including the advertising faecial matter that websites and forums get spammed with!). This is just one example of many.

In reality, such AI programs are merely complex computer programs. There’s a maxim in computer science: ”garbage in, garbage out”. ChatGPT and other AI programs take information - correct or not correct - then include it as part of an answer which they might give. So, when there’s rubbish on internet such as unreal Russian infinitive forms like ”Cпаси́ть”, then these AI programs will blindly take it in as data... AI is actually quite stupid. It still takes a human to provide the intelligent part of the process

AI programs should be used as a tool, not an all-knowing supernatural being!

Using your tool analogy, you have to know your tools and their parameters to be able to actually use them properly. If you think a wood drill bit made from soft steel will easily get through stainless steel, you’re going to both destroy your drill bit and the drill you’re using might burn out. Si
milarly, if you don’t understand that AI models merely process information requests which ultimately are generating a best guess summary of limited scope from a bunch of often imperfect training data, then you are going to likely get burnt sooner rather than later.

I’m inclined to agree with you about AI being a tech industry con-job. Progress has been somewhat incremental over the last 30 years or so. The single biggest improvement is higher computational speeds and memory which enable training data to get pumped through neural networks quicker. In the end, you are still only generating summaries while stripping out context in the original training data.

That peremptory tone you refer to was undoubtedly hard-wired into the AI model rather than something generated by a large language model of some description. It’s the usual all-knowing bluff which constitutes US business English forms and would seem to be a feature and not a bug of the AI model output - the usual game of bluff and BS. The reasons would possibly be ”marketing” rather than trying to implicitly inform about the validity of the AI model output.

How good’s a tool that one can’t rely upon? Even a hobbyist needs to trust their tools, unless they want to get injured by a blunt chisel, a sticking circuit breaker, or a leaking gas stove. Information leading you down the primrose path? Hmm... The peremptory tone used by the best known AI while stating blatant BS makes it all look like the last big technology con job. Might be the right tool for that job.
